T Man and Little J love to play with coins. One day I noticed JJ placing the coins in piles. Being a teacher, I decide it was the perfect opportunity for a little learning.
I quickly took out 4 recycled butter containers and wrote the name and value of the coin on the lid.
Then, we worked as a team to sort the coins into the correct piles.
Next, we counted some of the coins and looked at features on each coin.
Finally, we placed the coins into the appropriate containers.
Later in the day T Man decide to sort the coins even further. He looked at the coins and started sorting them by the year. He decide that was too many piles and sorted them by decades instead. he also sorted the coins by what was on the backs of the coin. He had noticed that quarters had tons of different things on the back of them.
All in all this was a really fun activity that they continue to do today.
